Comets Archery Burst Onto The Scene

Comets Archery Burst Onto The Scene

Storm Lake, Iowa — The Cottey College Archery team made a confident entrance into collegiate competition at the Buena Vista University Invitational and Grand View Invitational, showcasing precision, poise, and podium-worthy performances against a talented field.

Facing off against multiple established programs—Buena Vista University, Grand View University, Coe College, and more—the Comets held their own across both individual and team events, marking a milestone moment for the emerging program.

Top-Tier Individual Performances

In the fixed pin division's 300 qualifying round, three Cottey archers landed in the top ten:

  • Allison Nalley led the way with a fourth-place finish, scoring 263 out of 300—an astonishing 162-point improvement from her previous week's qualifying score.

  • CJ Richards followed closely in fifth with a score of 260.

  • Betty Smith rounded out the top ten with a solid 242.

Nalley's performance earned her a spot in the elimination bracket, where she advanced to the second round before being knocked out after a few dropped arrows.

Mixed Teams Deliver Podium Finish

Cottey's mixed teams also made a statement:

  • Allison Nalley and Katelin Sutton entered the fixed pin mixed team competition in third place and held their position through the final round, securing a podium finish in their first collegiate outing.

  • Asher Goncalves and Gabi Cruz represented Cottey in the barebow division, competing with focus and determination.

In one of the weekend's most dramatic moments, CJ Richards and Daisy Flint tied at 140 after five ends in the fixed pin compound division. The match went to a shoot-off, where they narrowly missed second place by less than a centimeter—clinching third in a thrilling finish.

A Promising Start for the Comets

With multiple top-ten finishes, a team podium placement, and a nail-biting shoot-off, Cottey Archery's debut was nothing short of inspiring. The team's performance not only demonstrated individual growth and competitive spirit but also laid the groundwork for a bright future in collegiate archery.

More photos and highlights from the event will be shared soon, but one thing is clear: the Comets have arrived—and they're aiming high.
