Nevada, MO.- The Comets continued their winning ways with big victories over Hannibal LaGrange University in the teams first ever meeting.
GAME ONE:
Lacey Cruz (SO/Oshkosh, WI) cruised through 5 innings to pick up her third win of the season. The offense was firing on all cylinders to back her effort with four home runs racking up 11 runs in the opener. Caitlyn Morgan (JR/Madisonville, TN) led off the home run binge with a three run shot in the 2nd inning. Katie Fernandez (SR/Queen Creek, AZ) matched Morgan with a three run bomb of her own in the 3rd inning and Lauren Johnson (SO/Lockport, IL) scored on a fielders choice to push the Comets lead to 7-0 after three. The fourth inning would spell the end for the Trojans as the Comets tacked on four more runs on a three run blast from Aryana Palencia (SO/Phoenix, AZ) and a solo home run from Kristen Hurst (SO/Rison, AR).
GAME TWO:
Alyssa Montoya (SO/Del Valle, TX is truly hitting her stride after a huge relief performance against Bellevue University over the weekend by continuing her scoreless streak throwing five one-hit innings in the complete game shutout in game two. Montoya picked up her third win on the young season to help push the Comets to an overall mark of 8-0. Johnson hit a three run home run to kick off the scoring in the first inning to give the Comets a lead they would never relinquish. Elizabeth Thomas (FR/Salida, CA) added her first career collegiate home run in the 2nd inning to push Cottey to a four run lead. Palencia added to her RBI total on the day with a two-run double in the 4th inning before Madison Hyder (FR/Nevada, MO) put the finishing touches on the sweep with a walk-off double to finish the run-rule victory.
UP NEXT:
Cottey plays six games this weekend with a double header on Friday against Ecclesia College and a four game set against Culver-Stockton College on Saturday and Sunday.
