The Cottey College Softball 2024 campaign got off to a quick start down in Louisiana, as the Comets took on LSU-Alexandria for a double header before the LSU-A Tournament this weekend. The hosts would come away with both contests, 6-4 in Game 1, and a high flying 21-14 in Game 2.
In Game 1, LSU-A put up 4 runs in the first inning, perhaps due to some first game jitters for the Comets. The rest of the way, the Comets battled back to make the final 6-4 scoreline. Braylen Ford went most of the way for the Comets, pitching 5 innings and only allowing 1 run. For the offense, Karina Ramirez went 2-4 while scoring a run, while Jenna Wilson led the way with 3 RBIs in the first game action for Cottey this season.
Game 2 was an offensive spectacle. The Comets put up 9 runs in the first inning, with LSU-A answering back with 6 runs in the 5th, and 8 runs in the 6th to power their way to a 21-14 win. Brooke Vicory got the start in the circle in Game 2. Makayla Snyder was the leader on offense for the Comets, going 4-5 at the plate, scoring 3 Runs and knocking in 3 RBIs. Karina Ramirez went 3-4 from the leadoff spot to again pace the Comets. Aryana Palencia was the RBI leader, putting 4 RBIs across the plate.
The Comets now go into the LSU-A tournament, where they will face Texas A&M Texarkana, Houston-Victoria, Louisiana Christian, and Texas Wesleyan.
