The bats were hot this weekend as the Cottey Comets Softball team took all four games of the weekend against Harris-Stowe and UHSP.
Game one on Saturday afternoon saw the Comets take the contest 8-0 over the Eutectics in 5 innings. Lauren Johnson had a Home Run and 5 RBIs, while Aariana Castillo also took one over the fence for the Comets. Brooke Vicory went all five innings for the Comets, keeping a clean sheet. Karina Ramirez would have 3 stolen bases, the first three of her seventeen on the weekend.
Game two on Saturday saw the Comets put up a 9-0 win in 5 innings. Halen Hoelzeman and Abigail McPherson were the two hitters who went yard in this one, as the Comets put up 10 hits. McPherson was also the Pitcher in the circle on the day, going all five innings, and only allowing one hit. Jenna Wilson and Aryana Palencia joined McPherson in going 2 for 2 on the day, providing lots of offense for the Comets.
Sunday afternoon saw the Comets take on Harris-Stowe, taking game one 20-0 in 5 innings. Elizabeth Thomas and Aariana Castillo would have Home Runs for the Comets, with Karina Ramirez swiping 8 bases in the contest. Ramirez and Lauren Johnson would each score 4 runs to pace the Comets coming across the plate. Abigail McPherson would get the start and go 3 scoreless innings before Ameila Gassman came in for 2 scoreless innings to get the save.
The final game of the weekend saw the Comets come out a bit slower, getting it done in the 6th to make the final 8-0 scoreline. Aryana Palencia had a triple, while Lauren Johnson and Halen Hoelzeman had doubles. Karina Ramirez went 3 for 4 at the plate, stealing 6 bases in the contest. Braylen Ford got start with pitching duties, throwing 3 innings of no-hit ball. Brooke Vicory and Amelia Gassman would each get some innings in the circle as well.
The wins boosted the Comets to 26-16 Overall, 10-4 in AMC Conference action. Cottey currently sits in 4th, although they host the 2nd and 3rd place teams next weekend. Game times are set for 2/4pm on Friday against Central Baptist, and 1/3pm on Saturday against Williams Baptist.
