Cottey Splits Series with Central Baptist

Cottey Splits Series with Central Baptist

For much of the day on Friday, Cottey was control of both games of the series with Central Baptist. The Mustangs would snatch a victory in the 7th inning of Game 1, while the Comets held onto victory in Game 2.

Game one had the bats hot for the Comets, grabbing a 6-1 lead after two innings. Amelia Gassman hit a Home Run to knock in 3 RBIs to kick start the game. The Mustangs would slowly start chipping away, eventually tying the game 6-6 in the top of the 5th inning. That would be short lived, as Mak Snyder launched a Home Run in the bottom of the 5th, scoring Aariana Castillo to take an 8-6 lead. The Mustangs would lead off the 7th with a single, before two fielders choice outs had the Comets one out away from a victory. CBC would claw one back on a single, before getting a 3 run shot of their own. Three flyouts in the bottom of the innings would end things there, with the Mustangs taking game one 10-8. Amelia Gassman got the start on the mound for the Comets, going 4.2 innings, while Abigail McPherson went 2.1 innings. Lauren Johnson, Elizabeth Thomas, and Aryana Palencia each had doubles to power the Comet offense.

Game two was much lower scoring affair. Once again, the Comets would come out hot with the bats, taking a 3-0 lead after 2 innings. Amelia Gassman and Aryana Palencia each went yard to put the Comets up early. It would then become a defensive battle and pitching duel between Alyssa Montoya and CBC pitcher Alex Jeter. The Mustangs would get on the board with a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning, and scoring in the top of the 6th with a double that scored another. The Mustangs would threaten in the 7th, getting a runner to 2nd, but in the end a fly out and ground out would seal the victory for the Comets. Montoya went the entire 7 innings in the circle to get the Win. Gassman and Mak Snyder had 2 hits each, with Palencia offering 2 RBIs from her Home Run.

The Comets record stands at 27-17, 11-5 in AMC play. They take on Williams Baptist at Home tomorrow with Senior Day festivities on the schedule.
