Comets End Season At San Antonio Regional In NAIA Opening Round

The Cottey Comets saw the curtain close on their 2024 season at the NAIA Opening Round in San Antonio, Texas when they fell to Hope International in an Elimination game on Tuesday.

The Comets end their season with a 32-21 record, but plenty of accolades to share. Cottey won their first ever NAIA Opening Round game when they took down Evangel 6-5 Tuesday; they also won their first ever American Midwest Conference Tournament Championship last week. The Comets have nine seniors who made their final appearances in uniform, but have also had a transformative impact on the program. This senior class qualified for the National Tournament all four years of eligibility, and have many records in the Cottey Softball Record book. Madison Hyder, Aryana Palencia, Virginia Nordin, Karina Ramirez, Brooke Vicory, Elizabeth Thomas, Jenna Wilson, and Lauren Johnson have all had incredible moments, and the program would not be where it is today without them and their efforts.

The campaign marked a successful first year for Head Coach Rebekah Klinginsmith, who will now retool the Comets and head into the 2025 season with a young roster.
