Comets Softball Posts Perfect 3-0 Weekend

Cottey College delivered its strongest weekend of the young season, earning three road wins in two days over Avila, York (NE), and Baker (KS). The Comets improved to 6–1, showcasing depth in the lineup, dominant pitching, and timely execution in every phase of the game.

 

GAME 1 – Cottey 8, Avila 4

February 14 • Kansas City, MO

Cottey opened the weekend with a comeback victory, scoring six unanswered runs after trailing 4–2 in the first inning.

Early Punch, Strong Response

  • Makayla Snyder delivered a two‑run single in the first.

  • Avila answered with four runs, but the Comets shut them out the rest of the way.

Gassman Locks In

After a tough first inning, Amelia Gassman dominated:

  • 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 K

  • 98 pitches, 66 strikes

  • 6 scoreless innings to close the game

Offensive Highlights

  • Snyder: 3 RBI

  • Carissa Camaclang: 2 hits, 2 runs

  • Bailey Cravens: RBI bunt + stolen base

  • Cottey capitalized on four Avila errors, scoring twice in the 7th to seal it

GAME 2 – Cottey 7, York (NE) 3

February 15 • York, NE

The Comets carried Saturday's momentum straight into Sunday, jumping out to a 5–0 lead and controlling the game from start to finish.

Offensive Firepower

Colegrove Stays Perfect

Freshman Tatianna Colegrove improved to 3–0, delivering another composed outing:

  • 7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 6 K

  • 105 pitches, 71 strikes

  • Allowed just one run outside of a two‑run homer in the 4th

Cottey's offense tallied 12 hits, scoring in five different innings.

 

GAME 3 – Cottey 3, Baker (KS) 1

February 15 • Baldwin City, KS

In the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, Cottey leaned on pitching and early execution to complete the weekend sweep.

Fast Start

The Comets struck twice in the first inning:

In the 3rd, Amelia Gassman doubled home Cravens to extend the lead to 3–1.

Tippie's Masterclass

Freshman Addison Tippie was brilliant in the circle:

  • 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

  • Just 49 pitches — an incredibly efficient complete game

  • Faced only 24 batters

Offensive Notes

  • Cravens: 2‑for‑2, 2 runs

  • Snyder: 2 hits

  • Audette: reached base three times

  • Camaclang & Martinez added key hits

Cottey played clean, controlled softball, never allowing Baker to mount a serious threat.
