For the first time since joining the American Midwest Conference, the Cottey Comets took down the Missouri Baptist Spartans. Home Court proved to be a big advantage as the Comets controlled the contest the entire way, winning 75-52.
With winter weather comes the inevitable sickness bug, and it once again limited some Comet player, but others stepped up to fill the gaps. The two leading scorers on the season, Sarah Hunt and Autumn Wallace, continued to do their thing and put in 25 and 22 points respectively, both shooting over 60% from the field. They were joined in double figures by Sara Montesdeoca, who put in 13 points of her own. In one of her first games back from injury, Akyria James had a big impact, putting up 9 points on 3 three point buckets in 16 minutes of gametime.
Karley Painter, Lesley Chalmers, Olivia Pruitt, and Ndeye Ndiaye all put in some valuable minutes off the bench, giving the starters a well-deserved breather.
The game resulted in the Comets 3rd AMC victory in a row, putting them at 11-5 Overall, and 3-3 in AMC conference action. The Comets are currently 5th in the standings. The Top 8 teams advance to the Conference Tournament, with the Top 4 hosting a game in the opening round.
Next up on the slate for the Comets is a road game at the William Woods Owls on Thursday, January 18th. Fans can catch the action starting at 5:30pm online at https://team1sports.com/wwuowls/.
