Comets Top Owls at Home in Blue Out Game

The crowd was all in blue, including a few sets of hair, as the Comets took on the Owls of William Woods on Thursday evening. While the games had some back and forth moments, Cottey took control of the game early on the strength of 11 first quarter points from Sarah Hunt. She ended the game as the leading scorer for the Comets, putting 19 on the board. Just behind Hunt was Sara Montesdeoca with 18, while Dally Coulter had 11, and Akyria James had 10 off the bench. Autumn Wallace was the leading rebounder, grabbing 9 boards.

The biggest gap between the two teams was out beyond the arc, with Cottey shooting 42.1% as a team, while holding William Woods to 21.1% from 3 point land. The Comets also fared better at the charity stripe, shooting 65% to the Owls 53.8%. The Owls did shoot better from the field, but were plagued by 17 turnovers. The Comets limited themselves to only 5, and converted on the extra possesions.

The win elevates the Comets into a tie with the Owls for 5th place in the American Midwest Conference standings. The Comets are 15-10 Overall, 7-8 in AMC play.

Cottey's week is not over, as they travel to Harris-Stowe Saturday for a 1pm tipoff.
