Comets Show Fight in Hard-Fought Battle Against Langston University
The Comets displayed resilience and heart in a competitive matchup against Langston University, despite falling short on the scoreboard. Facing a seasoned Langston squad that went 31–3 last season and lost by just two points to the eventual national champion, Dordt, the Comets held their own and showed flashes of strong play throughout the contest.

While Langston ultimately pulled away after outscoring the Comets in the second and fourth quarters, there were plenty of positives to build on. The Comets shot an efficient 43% from the field and 36% from three-point range, while limiting Langston to just 38% shooting overall and 23% from beyond the arc.

Freshmen guards Gabby Burrus and Riley Essenpries led the way offensively, each scoring 11 points, showing composure and confidence against one of the top NAIA programs in the country.

Head Coach Timothy Eatman praised his team’s effort and toughness after the game.

“What a valiant effort we  today,” Eatman said. “Our ability to get tougher and win those 50-50 balls will determine our fate this season. When we were mentally sharp, we played really well.”

Eatman also gave credit to Langston’s experience and championship mentality.

“Langston is a terrific program that knows how to respond when games get tough,” he added. “They stepped up their defense and hit some timely threes in transition. That’s what good teams do.”

A major area of concern for the Comets was rebounding — Langston grabbed 20 offensive boards, creating numerous second-chance opportunities that proved costly. Still, Eatman believes this will serve as a valuable learning experience for his young team moving forward.

“This was a great learning opportunity for us,” he said. “We have plenty to improve upon, but I’m proud of where we are and how our players competed against one of the best programs in the country.”

Despite the loss, the Comets’ energy, effort, and flashes of excellence suggest a promising road ahead — especially if they can tighten up their rebounding and continue to grow mentally stronger each game.
The Comets travel Tuesday to face the Avila Eagles. The game will also be on Sunny 99.9 and AM 1240, KNEM for those in and around Nevada. The link below you can use https://us7.maindigitalstream. com/4890/ for the audio stream.
