Comets Weekend Roundup - Madalenn Fee All-Americans in 1000m

Track & Field

Cottey College senior Madalenn Fee has added another major achievement to her historic career, earning NAIA All‑American honors in the 1000‑meter run after placing 5th at the national championships. The performance marks yet another All‑American finish for one of the most decorated athletes in Cottey track & field history.

Fee delivered a poised, veteran race on the national stage, navigating a deep field and surging late to secure her top‑five finish. Her consistency, race IQ, and ability to rise in championship moments once again set her apart.

This All‑American honor adds to an already remarkable senior campaign that has included school records, national standards, and multiple conference awards. Fee's impact on the program — both as a competitor and a leader — continues to elevate Cottey's presence on the national level.

Final: Midland 39, Cottey 0

Cottey College ran into one of the top offenses in the KCAC on Saturday, falling 39–0 on the road at Midland. The Comets battled throughout the afternoon and generated several promising stretches defensively, but Midland's efficiency on short fields and explosive passing attack proved too much to overcome.

First Half – Midland Capitalizes on Field Position

Midland struck first midway through the opening quarter, finishing a short 31‑yard drive to take a 7–0 lead. Cottey's defense forced multiple long‑yardage situations early, but Midland continued to benefit from advantageous field position.

In the second quarter, the Warriors added two more touchdowns — both on drives under 45 yards — to extend the lead to 19–0 at halftime. Despite the deficit, Cottey's secondary produced several strong plays, including tight coverage from Aryah Alexander and Dominique Derraco‑Franklin.

Second Half – Comets Fight, Midland Finishes Strong

The third quarter was Cottey's best defensive stretch, holding Midland scoreless and forcing longer drives. The Comets also found rhythm through the air, with Xitlali Botts and Aryah Alexander combining for 93 receiving yards.

Midland regained momentum in the fourth, scoring three times — again capitalizing on short fields — to push the final margin to 39–0.

Softball

Cottey Softball battled through a competitive four‑game slate over the weekend, finishing 2–2 with quality wins over Graceland and Kansas Wesleyan while dropping matchups against Evangel and Culver‑Stockton.

The Comets showed resilience, timely hitting, and late‑game toughness—especially in their extra‑inning victory.

Cottey 8, Graceland 1

The Comets opened the weekend with a commanding win, using steady offense and strong pitching to control the game from start to finish. Cottey's lineup produced consistently, and the pitching staff kept Graceland off balance throughout.

Cottey 9, Kansas Wesleyan 8 (8 innings)

In the most dramatic game of the weekend, Cottey outlasted KWU in an eight‑inning thriller. The Comets delivered clutch swings late, pushed the game into extras, and sealed the win with timely execution on both sides of the ball. It was one of the team's grittiest performances of the season.

Evangel 9, Cottey 5

Cottey put up a strong offensive fight but couldn't overcome Evangel's big innings. Despite the loss, the Comets continued to generate traffic on the bases and kept pressure on throughout.

Culver‑Stockton 6, Cottey 2

Cottey created scoring chances but couldn't find the breakthrough hits needed to close the gap.
