Cottey College entered the tournament with momentum but faced a gauntlet of well-prepared opponents, finishing 1–3 across three matches against Sterling College, Manhattan Christian, Dallas Christian, and Central Christian.
Match 1: Sterling College def. Cottey College (3–0)
Set Scores: 25–12, 25–15, 25–19 Sterling came out firing, hitting an impressive .433 in the opening set and never looked back. Cottey struggled to find rhythm offensively, hitting just .019 overall. Despite the loss, standout freshman Magdalen Dougherty led the Comets with 8 kills and a .259 hitting percentage, while libero Morgan Koch anchored the back row with 12 digs.
Sterling's Chloe Schmidt was dominant from the service line and the net, tallying 7 kills and 7 aces. Setter Emma Butler orchestrated the offense with 19 assists, helping Sterling improve to 4–1 on the season.
Match 2: Manhattan Christian def. Cottey College (3–1)
Set Scores: 19–25, 25–17, 25–17, 25–20 Cottey showed resilience in their evening matchup, taking the first set behind a balanced attack led by Serafina Auberry (12 kills) and Elena Adams (7 kills). Dougherty added 6 more kills, and setter Saylah Rea distributed 19 assists.
However, Manhattan Christian's firepower proved too much. Outside hitter Ellie Wilson (16 kills, 17 digs) and Liv Lubbers (13 kills, 22 digs) led a relentless offense. Setter Ellie Suber dished out 44 assists, and Jacey Schurle was nearly unstoppable with a .565 hitting clip. Manhattan's depth and defensive coverage sealed the comeback win.

Dougherty was electric again with 12 kills on a .429 clip, while Raelin Calderon and Maysi Miller each added efficient swings (2 kills apiece, .500 hitting).
Central Christian's Sydnie Jones (13 kills) and Chloe Goratowski (10 kills) led a potent attack that hit .227 overall. Setter Maddie Nix was instrumental with 29 assists and 5 aces, keeping Cottey's defense on its heels.
Match 4: Cottey College def. Dallas Christian (3–0)
Set Scores: 25–16, 25–21, 25–11 Cottey saved their best for last. Auberry exploded for 12 kills on a .348 hitting percentage, while Ryleigh Dean added 7 kills on a blistering .455 clip. Dougherty chipped in 7 kills and 10 digs, and Saylah Rea ran the offense with 31 assists. The Comets hit .283 as a team and out-blocked Dallas Christian 9–0, showcasing their defensive dominance.
Cottey College heads home with a 2–3 record and a clear upward trajectory. With lineup adjustments paying off and young talent emerging, the Comets are poised to build on this momentum as they enter the heart of their fall schedule.
