Cottey College kept things close early, but a dominant second-half surge propelled Williams Baptist University to an 86–56 victory on Monday night.
The Comets opened strong, edging ahead 12–10 after the first quarter. However, Williams Baptist found its rhythm in the second, outscoring Cottey 19–9 to take a 29–21 lead into halftime. The turning point came in the third quarter, when the Eagles erupted for 36 points, stretching the margin beyond reach. By the final buzzer, Williams Baptist had secured a convincing 30-point win.
Williams Baptist showcased balanced scoring and rebounding throughout the night. Cha'Myrean Ellis led the way with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Chelsea Hamilton added 16 points and three steals. Joi Montgomery was a force inside, recording a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Off the bench, Cortayza Flowers provided instant offense, scoring 13 points in just 10 minutes of play.
Cottey College was paced by Gabrielle Burrus, who delivered a strong all-around performance with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Andrea Aragon chipped in 13 points, including three three-pointers, while AuShae Farris added 12. Despite their efforts, the Comets struggled to keep pace with Williams Baptist's rebounding dominance and depth, as the Eagles held a 43–28 advantage on the boards and received 25 points from their reserves.
