Cottey College came out firing on Saturday afternoon, but a massive fourth‑quarter push from the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy flipped the game late as the Comets fell 79–69 inside the Hinkhouse Center.
Cottey (5–14, 4–6 AMC) controlled the opening 10 minutes with one of its sharpest starts of the season, racing to a 15–4 first‑quarter lead behind efficient shooting and active defense. The Comets carried that momentum into halftime up 38–24, holding UHSP to just 4 points in the opening frame and forcing early turnovers.
The second half, however, belonged to the Eutectics. UHSP outscored Cottey 24–18 in the third and then delivered a decisive 31‑point fourth quarter, turning a tight contest into a late separation.
Cottey Standouts
AuShae Farris — 16 points
Farris knocked down four threes and provided steady scoring throughout, keeping Cottey afloat as STLCOP made its run.
Andrea Aragon — 15 points, 6 rebounds
Aragon was nearly automatic, shooting 6‑for‑9 from the field and hitting two threes. Her inside‑out versatility set the tone early.
Gabrielle Burrus — 12 points
Burrus gave Cottey a spark off the bench, hitting two threes and adding timely buckets during the Comets' best stretches.
Balanced Contributions
-
Sadie Hubbard: 7 points, efficient 3‑for‑3 shooting
-
Riley Essenpries: 6 points, 2 steals
-
Ava Maner: 4 points, 5 assists, 3 steals
-
Brecklen Morrison: 5 points, 3 assists
Cottey shot an impressive 50% from the field and 47% from three, but UHSP's ability to get to the line (35 free‑throw attempts) and dominate the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.
UHSP's Late Surge
The Eutectics (10–10, 7–3 AMC) were powered by:
-
Analyssa Maldonado — 18 points, 5 steals
-
Alise Milenberga — 17 points, 3 threes
-
Aryanna Bull — 16 points, 10 rebounds
Their relentless pressure and transition scoring in the final period swung the game.
Cottey showed stretches of excellent basketball — especially the dominant first quarter — and multiple players delivered strong individual performances. But the fourth quarter turned into a free‑throw parade and transition battle that UHSP controlled.
The Comets return to action looking to build on the positives from the first half and tighten late‑game execution as AMC play continues.
