Cottey Takes Home Opener 3-0 over OCC

Cottey College opened its 2025 home volleyball slate with a decisive straight-set victory over Ozark Christian, winning 25–16, 25–12, 25–18 in front of an energized home crowd. The Comets showcased depth, discipline, and defensive grit as they cruised to a 3–0 sweep at the Nevada Country Club gym.

From the first serve, Cottey controlled the tempo. Sophomore outside hitter Serafina Auberry led the offense with 9 kills on 24 attempts, hitting an efficient .292 and adding a service ace. Magdalen Dougherty added 7 kills and 12 digs, anchoring both the front and back rows with poise.

Setter Saylah Rea orchestrated the attack with 18 assists, spreading the ball across a balanced lineup that saw 10 different players record kills. Rea also contributed a service ace and 3 digs, helping Cottey maintain pressure from the service line.

Defensively, senior Mckinzie Bohrer was a standout with 15 digs and a service ace, while Elena Adams and Hannah Janson combined for five block assists to shut down Ozark Christian's attempts at the net. The Comets held their opponents to a hitting percentage of just -.136 across three sets.

 The Comets finished with 7 aces and 10 total blocks, while committing just 9 service errors.

With the win, Cottey College sets the tone for a season built on depth, hustle, and strategic play. The team will return to action later this week as they prepare for a road tournament at UHSP in St. Louis this weekend for four matches.
