Dougherty collects 1000 Career Digs as Cottey goes 2-1 on the weekend

Cottey College Volleyball capped off a competitive road swing to open American Midwest Conference play with a 2–1 record, showcasing resilience, depth, and flashes of dominance across three matches on the road.

Sept. 19: Cottey def. Harris-Stowe, 3–1

Set Scores: 25–21, 21–25, 25–16, 25–20 Cottey opened the trip with a strong win over Harris-Stowe, led by Magdalen Dougherty's 15 kills and Serafina Auberry's .286 hitting percentage. The team hit a match-best .209 in the fourth set to close out the win.

 

Sept. 20 (Match 1): Cottey def. UHSP, 3–1

Set Scores: 20–25, 25–15, 25–21, 25–15 After dropping the first set, Cottey surged back with balanced offense and aggressive serving.

  • Auberry led again with 11 kills, while Dougherty and Rea each tallied 10+ kills.

  • Bohrer served up 6 aces, and Rea dished out 29 assists in a commanding performance.

  • Cottey hit .478 in the fourth set, their most efficient frame of the weekend.

 

Sept. 20 (Match 2): Stephens def. Cottey, 3–1

Set Scores: 10–25, 15–25, 25–23, 12–25 Despite a third-set rally, Cottey couldn't overcome Stephens' high-powered attack, which hit .328 overall and .417 in the final set.

  • Marang, Dougherty, and Auberry each posted 7+ kills, with Marang hitting .300.

  • Ford led with 13 assists, and Rea added 15 digs and a block assist.

  • Stephens' Lena Hunziker was dominant with 15 kills and 18.5 points.

 

Weekend Recap:

Cottey finishes the trip at 2–1, improving to 6–9 overall and 2–1 in conference play. The team showed strong offensive balance, improved serve pressure, and flashes of elite execution—especially in their fourth-set finishes.

With momentum building and chemistry tightening, the Comets look poised to climb the standings as they head into the heart of the season.
