Cottey College Volleyball put up a determined fight on Thursday evening at Hinkhouse Center, showcasing flashes of offensive power and defensive hustle in a competitive three-set match against visiting Stephens College. Despite the 0–3 final score (18–25, 17–25, 18–25), the Comets continued to build chemistry and resilience as they head into the final stretch of the season.
Senior outside hitter Magdalen Dougherty led the charge with 9 kills on just 18 swings, hitting an impressive .389 and adding a service ace and 10.0 total points. Serafina Auberry followed with 8 kills and 8.5 points, while Tatum Marang contributed 5 kills and a block assist.
On the defensive end, Morgan Koch anchored the back row with 9 digs, and Saylah Rea added 13 assists and 4 digs while chipping in 2 service aces. Braylen Ford led all players with 8 assists and 7 digs, showing her versatility in both setting and coverage.
Cottey's blocking presence was felt throughout the match, with Ryleigh Dean, Marang, and Auberry combining for 4 block assists and a solo block. The Comets also held Stephens to a .147 hitting percentage in the opening set, forcing errors and extending rallies with scrappy defense.
While the scoreboard didn't tilt in Cottey's favor, the team's energy, communication, and individual growth were evident. With postseason play approaching, the Comets continue to refine their rotations and build momentum for a strong finish. The five Comet Seniors of Dougherty, Ford, Elena Adams, Katlyn (Gray) Scott, and Mckinzie Bohrer will have one final home contest on Saturday when the Comets take on Haskell University in Hinkhouse Gymnasium at 1pm.
