Cross Country Comets Picked 2nd in the American Midwest Conference

Cottey College enters the 2025 cross country season with momentum and expectations. After earning a tie for second in the American Midwest Conference preseason coaches poll — including one first-place vote — the Comets are positioned to challenge perennial power Columbia College and push for a conference title.

Leading the charge is senior Madalenn Fee (Palmyra, NY), who returns as an NAIA National Qualifier and the team's top performer. Her experience on the national stage sets the tone for a roster built on consistency and competitive drive. Fellow seniors Hannah Hayduk (St. Helens, OR), Kyndal and Kate Soukup (Amarillo, TX), and Joliette Johnson (Reno, NV) round out a veteran core that brings stability and leadership across all race distances.

The underclassmen add depth and upside. Sophomore Jessie Mick (Ault, CO) showed promise last season and is expected to take a step forward, while junior Avery Morris (Nevada, MO) continues to improve and contribute solid scoring for the team. Freshman Arabelle McDonald (Columbia, MO) joins the squad with strong potential, and newcomers add energy and connection to the team dynamic.

With Columbia ranked first (25 points, 4 first-place votes), Cottey and Hannibal-LaGrange tied for second (18 points each), and Health Sciences & Pharmacy close behind (14 points), the conference race is wide open. The Comets will need consistent scoring and strong pack running to stay in contention throughout the season.

This year's team has the tools to compete at the top of the AMC and build toward a conference championship. With a mix of proven talent and developing runners, Cottey is ready to make every meet count.
