Comets take 6th at SBU Bearcat XC Invite

Cottey College's cross country team delivered a spirited showing in a deep and competitive field, led by senior standout Madalenn Fee. Fee clocked an impressive 18:28.96 to finish 11th overall, pacing herself with precision and closing strong in the final stretch. Her performance not only anchored the team's scoring but also set a high bar for consistency and leadership. Behind her, junior Avery Morris turned in a solid effort with a 20:02.04 finish, demonstrating resilience and steady pacing that hints at untapped potential for the season ahead.

The Comets showed encouraging depth across the roster, with seniors Kate Soukup and Hannah Hayduk contributing veteran poise and late-race grit. Soukup's 20:21.62 and Hayduk's 20:45.34 reflected smart race management, while freshman Arabelle McDonald impressed in her debut with a 22:29.65 finish. Several athletes showed strong closing splits, suggesting that with tighter pack running and strategic pacing adjustments, Cottey could significantly improve its team placement in future meets.

Overall, the meet offered a clear glimpse into the team's evolving identity—one built on leadership, emerging talent, and a shared commitment to growth. With lineup refinement and continued development from underclassmen, Cottey is poised to sharpen its competitive edge. As the season unfolds, the Comets will look to build on this foundation, aiming not just for faster times, but for a culture of cohesion and confidence that can carry them through championship season.

Next up on the schedule for the Comets is hosting the Cottey College Invitational, held at Frank E Peters Golf Course. It will feature a collegiate showcase, alongside races for local Middle and High School divisions.
